Austin Youth Collective

I worked with the organisation Austin Youth Collective. In helping them refresh their website to be aesthetically pleasing, user-friendly, responsive, increasing online presence, and fitting their current needs. I used modern web trends and designed with accessibility and usability in mind. Also creating a sitemap, wireframes, and mockups grounded in user-centered design principles.

The Austin Youth Collective (AYC) is a group of young leaders working tirelessly in the City of Austin to End Youth Homelessness. Their site is their platform for leadership and community engagement, where young people can respond positively and proactively to the challenges and crises facing youth homelessness.

The Research

To start my redesign process for Austin Youth Collective, I begin by understanding their mission and their user base. Meeting with the Austin Youth Collective team, allowed me to gather an understanding of their website concerns and mission. I analysed the website for any usability and accessibility issues. Taking note of the pages they currently have, plan to have and the information on each page. With this knowledge, I was able to strategies for designing an aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly website.

Sitemap

As their previous site only had a few pages, the sitemap was simple. The Our Mission page was removed due to minimal page text, with the information being better suited for the Home page. A Blog page was added for the AYC team to share their knowledge and lived experience. The sitemap helped with understanding and determining where the call to actions buttons were directing the user.

The Home page contains the AYC mission statement along with multiple Call to Actions buttons for the viewer to learn more about the team, donate, and keep up to date with their blog. In addition to having a Donate button included in the top navigation for constant access.
